Heights Journalism goes Boston

National Journalism Convention

From Wednesday, November 13th, to Sunday, November 17th, the Heights journalism staff toured Boston, Massachusetts. Advisors, Sean Monaghen and Mark Unruh, took 5 Heights students along with 3 other Wichita schools: Northwest, East, and North. The students from Heights included newspaper editor, Shelby Burns, yearbook editor, Kendra Jandrakovic, Studio H producer, Danny Hans, campus editor, Taylor Moseley, and editor, Mercedes Jones.

Over the course of 5 days, the staff followed the Freedom Trail, stopping at different historical sites along the way: Fenway Park, Boston Common, Paul Revere’s House, Old North Church, etc. The main reason for going to Boston, though, was for the National Journalism Convention that is held twice a year. Students from all over the country came together to learn about journalism.  Different sessions were held that were hosted by accredited teachers and journalists. Students learned about writing, editing, creating, publishing, producing, angling, etc.
